Lobby readers have contacted us through Hilton - affiliated hotels that refuse refunds due to corporate policy. You may already be aware that the French Government has taken measures to protect the rights of hotel guests in France under the European Convention on Human Rights and has therefore stipulated that hotels must offer vouchers for bookings falling under this category. We are still waiting for a refund, but are now being told that only we can offer a voucher. I was surprised to receive the email below, in which they are trying to force vouchers rather than refunds on us.
We understand that when you originally cancelled your reservation, you may have been informed that your refund will be processed and replaced with a voucher. If you have cancelled at a price that requires a prepayment of a deposit, we will do everything to process the refund as soon as possible. Others who have reservations for a Hilton stay and refuse to receive a refund should contact Guest Assistance, which has the tools to resolve this issue.

MrsTravelingExpat had Hilton Diamond status for the rest of the year, but for various reasons did not make use of it during our stay. The restaurants at the hotel were decent enough and had a good selection, and we found their breakfasts quite good, although the value we received for our membership in the elite was below that of other hotels in the area, especially in terms of food and beverage choices.

I have been a Hilton Diamond Gold for years and had a pleasant lounge and breakfast experience during those years. There are not many room upgrades, life is tough and as others have told me, as a Diamond member you must book at least 2 days in advance.
